Organisational Overview:
QPE Advanced Machining is a partner of the six-company alliance, Stärke-AMG. Located in Gillman, South Australia, QPE has over 40 qualified professionals employed covering a range of skill sets, with strong defence projects experience. QPE specialises in handling complex machined components, fabrications, coatings, and deliver full product and system assemblies.
Internship Scope:
QPE is currently seeking students in the disciplines of Mechanical Engineering & Engineering Management.
The selected interns will work with QPE Project Management Team under the supervision of industrial experts to learn Industry – Specific Knowledge, Practical & Technical skills.
Internship Duration:
3-20 weeks with flexibility to work part-time or full-time over different study periods.
Expected learning outcomes for each role:
- Learn to read drawings
- Acquire an understanding of how to determine production workflow
- Strengthen workplace communication skills
- Gain basic project management skills and experience
- Learn to use measuring tools
Anticipated Tasks for each role:
- Create models and drawings
- Develop and revise 2D/3D CAD models
- Ensure compliance with design standards and specifications
- Read drawings and create Job Travellers
- Interpret technical drawings
- Document manufacturing steps, materials, and tools required
- Create manufacturing schedule
- Plan and update production timelines
- Coordinate with teams to manage resources and priorities
- Generate project status reports
- Track progress and highlight key milestones
- Communicate updates and risks
- Use basic hand tools and measuring equipment
- Perform simple assembly or inspection tasks
- Measure components using calipers, micrometers, etc.
Student Eligibility:
Successful applicants must be:
- Australian citizens, residing in South Australia
- Enrolled as an undergraduate in a relevant engineering discipline at University of Adelaide, University of South Australia or Flinders University
- Eligible to undertake a credit-bearing internship course for this internship experience
