Organisational Overview:

QPE Advanced Machining is a partner of the six-company alliance, Stärke-AMG. Located in Gillman, South Australia, QPE has over 40 qualified professionals employed covering a range of skill sets, with strong defence projects experience. QPE specialises in handling complex machined components, fabrications, coatings, and deliver full product and system assemblies.

Internship Scope:

QPE is currently seeking students in the disciplines of Mechanical Engineering & Engineering Management.

The selected interns will work with QPE Project Management Team under the supervision of industrial experts to learn Industry – Specific Knowledge, Practical & Technical skills.

Internship Duration:

3-20 weeks with flexibility to work part-time or full-time over different study periods.

Expected learning outcomes for each role: 

  • Learn to read drawings
  • Acquire an understanding of how to determine production workflow
  • Strengthen workplace communication skills
  • Gain basic project management skills and experience
  • Learn to use measuring tools

Anticipated Tasks for each role:

  • Create models and drawings
    • Develop and revise 2D/3D CAD models
    • Ensure compliance with design standards and specifications
  • Read drawings and create Job Travellers
    • Interpret technical drawings
    • Document manufacturing steps, materials, and tools required
  • Create manufacturing schedule
    • Plan and update production timelines
    • Coordinate with teams to manage resources and priorities
  • Generate project status reports
    • Track progress and highlight key milestones
    • Communicate updates and risks
  • Use basic hand tools and measuring equipment
    • Perform simple assembly or inspection tasks
    • Measure components using calipers, micrometers, etc.

Student Eligibility:

Successful applicants must be:

  • Australian citizens, residing in South Australia
  • Enrolled as an undergraduate in a relevant engineering discipline at University of Adelaide, University of South Australia or Flinders University
  • Eligible to undertake a credit-bearing internship course for this internship experience
